As the current Principal Technologist for Thermal Systems for NASA’s Space Technology Mission Directorate, Jeff Farmer’s current roles are to serve as a subject matter expert for space systems thermal control covering technologies including heat acquisition, transport, rejection, insulation and coatings, refrigeration, and cryogenics, as well as to help identify technology shortfalls and develop plans to meet near term and future space mission thermal needs. Recent activities at NASA, prior to this, range from space mission roles including Human Landing System thermal discipline lead to thermal technology development activities related to surviving and operating through the lunar day/night thermal extremes. Jeff earned a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a doctorate in mechanical engineering – thermal sciences from the University of Texas at Austin.
