Dr. Marcel Kaufmann is a Data Scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), where he advances autonomous exploration technologies through his expertise in robotics and computer engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Polytechnique Montréal, where his research focused on human-robot interaction and multi-robot systems for planetary exploration. He also earned a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Photonics and Computer Vision from the University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt, Germany. At JPL, Dr. Kaufmann contributed to the DARPA Subterranean Challenge with Team CoSTAR and played a key role in developing mission autonomy capabilities for the NeBula framework, supporting robotic exploration in complex environments. His research interests include multi-robot coordination, human-robot interaction, and data visualization, all aimed at enabling future planetary missions.
